The Process

Each piece of MTWW furniture begins its journey in the foothills of the Southern Alps in a managed spread of Corsican Pines.  Trees are felled, then debarked and de-limbed by hand.   Once harvested, the poles are fed into the Montana Woodworks Solar Kiln for an OPEC-boycotting drying experience.

After reaching proper moisture content, each length of trunk is hand-peeled, then shaped and planed with spoke shaves and draw knifes. With the greatest appreciation for the genius of nature, our designs and material selections consider and often accentuate the linear deviancies of these corsican poles. Although the process does include the employment of machines and a few indentured robots, the overall carbon footprint is minimal.
